With the demands of building a business and raising a family, burn out was starting to creep in. I was starting to feel depleted, frustrated, and at times not sure I could keep up with everything.
It was somewhere between the 40th load of laundry that week and the moment my son said that he was tired of me “always working” (that one pulled at my heartstrings) that I knew it was time to get away.
But it wasn’t that easy! Even as a travel advisor (yes, my job is to encourage other people to travel!), I didn’t know if I could do it. Leaving my kids?! Would they be alright? What about the money? I felt so...guilty. Guilty to leave them. To prioritize me for once.
Before I left I was feeling pretty burned out. With my work, my kids, just everyday life, ya know? Building a business and raising a family is not for the faint of heart.
Does this sound familiar at all?
With a lot of planning and a few tears, I did it. And it was so worth it, but not in the way I thought it would be. Sure, it was relaxing and certainly fun.
But, the biggest impact was that it allowed me to step away and GAIN PERSPECTIVE. And that’s the secret I want to share with you.
Friend, you don’t have to live in the doldrums!
With the perspective I gained from my getaway, I truly feel energized, refreshed, and ready to take on the world! Something happens when we take a step back and move out of our routine for a while.
We are able to view things differently. Kind of like the view from an airplane. From 30,000 feet, everything looks so peaceful. We can see the big picture.
If you can relate at all to feeling stuck and maybe even burned out (like I was), this ebook will help you learn how to re-energize your life by taking a step back.
I know. It sounds so simple. And it is! That’s what is so beautiful about it.
But if you’re like me, it’s so easy to forget about the basics. In the midst of everything, a simple change like taking a step away seems so impossible. Or we forget about it entirely.
Our brain on stress goes into tunnel vision mode. There’s a lot of science behind this, but I’ll just leave it there for now.
But when we only focus on what is directly in front of us, we miss out on the bigger picture view that can help us connect with our goals, ourselves, and our loved ones.
It’s pretty powerful stuff.
And it’s available to anyone who is willing to put the lessons into practice.
With a simple step back and shift in perspective, we open ourselves up to so much more in our lives. We release the stress and become better employees, friends, parents, and humans.
What’s in the ebook?
I break it down into 3 ways you can actually gain perspective (and all the benefits that come with that) at any point in your life.
Chapter 1: Why Perspective is Important
If you’ve read this far, you probably don’t need a whole lot of convincing as to why it’s important, but this chapter of the book goes deeper into how stress and lack of perspective are intertwined and why it’s so crucial for our well-being.
Chapter 2: Step Away for a Bit
This chapter is actually the magic, guys, because anyone can do this at anytime and still get the impact. Will it be as profound as spending a week away? No, but it’s again, it’s available to you NOW with no planning or money needed. And we go through how to do it.
Chapter 3: Going Away for a Weekend or Short Conference
Once you get the hang of taking short breaks like we discuss in Chapter 1, you might find yourself needing more focused breaks to refresh and recharge. We will also discuss how you can take short breaks, again, with no money needed. You might need a little planning to make these work, but these strategies work well and are worth it.
Chapter 4: The Power of Vacations and Retreats
Often, we don’t start to realize we really need a vacation until we’re in dire need of one. Think about how much better you’ll do throughout the year if you take the time once a year (or maybe even twice a year) to recharge your batteries.
