My Wellness Story

A huge component of wellness, to me, is empowerment. Now, we don’t have control over what happens to us, obviously, or the cards we are dealt regarding our health, but we do have the power to make choices. Knowing that I hold the power to make decisions that help me feel good has been a huge part of my wellness journey.

All through my teens and twenties, I suffered from severe, debilitating headaches. I tried all kinds of pain meds that barely touched the pain, and eventually I went to a neurologist. She confirmed that there wasn’t anything medically wrong with me and put me on yet again, more medication. This time it was a daily medication that was supposed to prevent the headaches.

And it worked. But it also destroyed my stomach, and I lost a lot of weight. I didn’t feel good, so I quit the medicine. And then the headaches came back in full force.

I felt defeated and discouraged.

One day, I mentioned it to my gynecologist, and she said, “Oh you should see this guy who has an office here, Dr. John. He practices Traditional Chinese Medicine, and headaches are a piece of cake for him to treat.”

My jaw dropped. What? A piece of cake? Sign me up.

So, I called Dr. John, and he shared with me his own story of healing and began to treat me as a whole person. After a few months, my headaches went away, I slept better, I had more energy, my whole being felt more vibrant. And I’m incredibly thankful for that experience, not only because of how great I felt, but also because of how it opened me to different ways of approaching wellness, health, and healing.

If not for that experience, I don’t think I would have gone forward with the yoga teacher training. If not for Dr. John, I don’t think I would have been open to essential oils in my life, and I don’t think I would be enthusiastically sharing them with you. And I probably wouldn’t be a wellness travel agent!

But, listen, ya’ll. Essential oils work for me. I use them every day, to help get a good night’s sleep, to support relaxation, to help with stomach discomfort, to clean, to wash my face, to set the mood in my house. All of it. And they are perfect little travel companions for all of the above as well.

I’ve learned so much more about how to take care of myself and my family in a natural, gentle way through the support of community, resources, and simple trial and error. And I would love for you to experience this for you and your family as well.
